The world is constantly competing for military power. The battle of who will be ahead of whom, whose weapons will be stronger is many years old. And the two biggest competitors in this fight in the modern world are the United States and Russia.
The discovery of new weapons and equipment to thwart enemy attacks and counter-attacks seems to have become an addiction for both sides. The United States has F-Thirty-Five and Russia has Su-Thirty-Five. Let’s find out the strengths and weaknesses of these two aircraft.
Russia has replaced Soviet-era warfare equipment with new ones for air combat and air defense. The Su-Thirty-Five fighter aircraft is its prime example. The full name is Sukhoi Su-Thirty-Five. NATO whose code name is Flanker F. The manufacturer of the warplane is the Komsomolsk Aircraft Production Association of Russia.
The Su-Thirty-Five is a more modern and improved version of the 1967 Su-Twenty M warplane. Which was added to the Russian Air Force fleet in 2014. The construction cost of each of them is estimated at 40 to 65 million US dollars. The maximum speed limit for a single-seat, two-engine aircraft is 2,400 kilometers per hour. Once with fuel can fly three and a half thousand kilometers. The range of the attack is 18 kilometers.
The aircraft can carry air-to-air, air-to-ground and anti-ship missiles. It also has the ability to carry anti-radiation missiles. It can identify targets from a distance of four hundred kilometers. Its radar has the ability to detect up to 30 targets simultaneously. The question is how effective will it be in front of the F-Thirty-Five, the most advanced aircraft in the United States?
The state has a fifth-generation F-35 fighter jet. The aircraft, built by Lockheed Martison Aeronautics, has an exit and one engine. However, its surveillance capability, its ability to attack targets is unrivaled. Its maximum speed limit is 1,900 kilometers per hour. However, it is technically ahead of any aircraft in terms of sensors, radar, attacking power, etc. Since 2015, three models of the aircraft have been added to the US Air Force in phases. The construction cost of each is 80 to 100 million dollars. The fifth-generation F-Thirty-Five is capable of attacking and defending from the sky, although the Pentagon says it has the ability to do all the work.
The US Air Force has a large fleet of state-of-the-art and versatile warplanes. Even superpowers like Russia and China have failed to take steps to build a fleet of fifth-generation warplanes. Russia has, of course, created a fleet of Su-Twenty Seven for their military; But that’s not enough to deal with the F-Thirty-Five in the United States. And that’s why they have brought Su-Thirty-Five as an improved version of this aircraft. Su-Thirty Five engine, speed, ability to fight, everything has improved. Who will win if there is a direct battle between these two warplanes in the sky? Suppose four US F-35s and four Russian Su-Thirty-Five fighter jets start fighting, which side will win heavier?
There are also differences of opinion among military analysts. Some say that if such a fight breaks out, the US will change its F-Thirty-Five course and call in their collaborators F-Twenty to Raptors and F-Fifteen CS fighters. The F-Thirty-Five, on the other hand, may prefer to attack its target, as the two aircraft are more capable of fighting in the air.
Some say that if the US F-Thirty-Five fighter jet could use all of its devices, it would be ahead of Russia’s Su-Thirty-Five.
Dev Majumder, defense editor at the Amsterdam-based think tank Transnational Institute, said the F-Thirty-Five pilot would be able to use its stealth and onboard, offboard sensors. If the F-Thirty-Five can use its strengths, avoiding its weaknesses, that’s what this expert says is the best. For example, the F-Thirty-Five may collapse if the enemy cannot fight out of sight.
The way the United States has built its F-Twenty-two Raptor for the superiority of sky-to-sky combat, the F-Thirty-Five is a bit behind that place. As high as the raptor can go and move at supersonic speeds, the speed of the F-Thirty-Five is a bit slower than that. In addition, in the event of a direct collision between two warplanes in Dogfight, the raptor will be able to destroy the enemy aircraft very quickly. The ability to speak quickly, to determine the angle of attack, to use maximum power at any height is also more than a raptor. The F-Thirty-Five can use maximum power at relatively low speeds and low altitudes, so it can only show its best performance when enemy aircraft lose focus.
The F-Thirty-Five cannot exert maximum power even in launching missiles from maximum speed and altitude. Missile carrying capacity is also low, and digital radio frequency jammers can weaken the fighter’s radar. That’s why many people say that in the case of Dogfight, only the skill and experience of the pilot of this aircraft can save him from being destroyed.
The F-Thirty-Five, capable of moving silently, can only use internal weapons. It does not have the capability to carry modern air-to-air missiles like the AIM-9X. So war experts say F-Thirty-Five pilots must avoid combat tactics at any cost. So the US Joint Air Component Commander, having an alternative method at hand, means that the F-Thirty-Five will not take to the skies in a battle for supremacy.
This fighter is actually more capable of secretly attacking an opponent’s target. Not for face-to-face combat. It is said that the air defense system is a bigger threat to the US Air Force than the fleets of different countries. The big question, however, is how effective the F-Thirty-Five will be in breaking this defense.
The F-Fifteen Sea Eagle, built by Boeing, has been in service with the U.S. Air Force for nearly 40 years, and for decades to come, the aircraft will probably be one of the best in U.S. warplanes. Although the old model, the aircraft is still ahead in many ways in the fight for excellence in the sky. Lockheed Martin’s F-Twenty Two is just ahead of it. And among foreign warplanes, the only threat to the F-Fifteen could be Russia’s Su-Thirty-Five.
If Russia starts exporting the aircraft abroad, the United States will have a bigger problem. Because it is already heard that Indonesia is going to buy this warplane. China may also be the next buyer. The possibility of the aircraft being added to the Chinese fleet has also been reported through various news outlets.
Su-Thirty-Five is truly a dangerous war machine. In many ways, it has surpassed the power of the F-Fifteen Eagle in the United States. Although the Russian Sue lags behind in terms of speed, it has two very powerful engines. Su can get supersonic speed when loading relatively less cargo. As a result, it will surpass F-Fifteen.
The greatest advantage of the Su-Thirty-Five is that it can run at supersonic speeds even at the highest altitudes. And it has the ability to stay out of the reach of others even if it runs at a relatively low speed. It has three dimensional thrust vectoring power, so it can show incredible tactics even when running at low speeds. It has a helmet mounting system i.e. the pilot’s helmet presents all the information in front of his eyes.
It also has the capability to carry and launch AIM-NineX and Russia R-Seventy Three Borsite missiles. Which the F-Thirty-Five of the United States cannot. Again, this fighter can destroy the enemy aircraft even if it fights from the range of vision. However, in this case, it has not been perfect yet. It depends on the skill and luck of the pilot. However, the Russian aircraft is a little ahead of the US F-35.
However, Su-Thirty-Five will lag behind in radar efficiency. Not only the US F-Thirty-Five, but also the F-Fifteen Eagle’s cellar has a slightly lower radar capability. However, Su-Thirty-Five will be ahead in the search and track system of the sensor. It has an infrared search system. Which is still awaiting joining the U.S. Air Force. And the ability to carry air-to-air missiles is also more than thirty-five. So in case of face-to-face combat, the Russian warplane must be kept ahead. On the other hand, the US warplane must advance electronic warfare, intelligence and surveillance skills.
