Singapore Cricket Association chairman Imran Khojao is also in the running for the ICC chairmanship.
Ever since Shashank Manohar resigned from the post of ICC chairman, there has been a lot of speculation surrounding the vacant post. A statement issued by the ICC on Monday also set a deadline for the next chairman to be nominated. The chairman candidate has to submit his name by October 18. The statement said an independent chairman of the ICC’s audit committee would look into the matter. However, nothing has been said yet about how the voting will take place.
In order for a candidate to become the ICC chairman, 18 ICC board members have to get two-thirds of the votes. However, a recent report in the media PTI said that a total of nine votes was enough to win the election. According to the ICC, the new chairman will take office in December this year. According to ICC rules, a candidate must be associated with the job of current or former ICC director in order to run for office.
The ICC can also nominate current BCCI president Sourav Ganguly for the post of chairperson. Sourav Ganguly has considerable experience in cricket administration. He has been the President of CAB for a long time. He is also currently serving as the Chairman of the Board of India. Former cricketers like Kumar Sangakkara and Graeme Smith also want Sourav as ICC chairman. Now, if the Board of Control for Cricket in India sends N Srinivasan for the post of ICC chairman, there is no chance for Sourav. Except for the rest of the road, Saurabh has cleared a lot. According to the ICC rulebook, Saurabh is also a qualified candidate.
Ishan Mani, the head of the Pakistan Cricket Board, told a news conference last September that he believed the ICC could run smoothly again if the chairmen were not selected from the big three. There is no doubt that Mani wanted to name the three big countries, India, Australia and England. Money also lamented the ICC’s delay in the selection process.
Ishan Mani made it clear that he was keen to be the ICC chairman once again. Singapore Cricket Association chairman Imran Khojao is also in the running for the ICC chairmanship. It is clear to everyone, young and old, that Saurabh is the key to launching the IPL this season, putting the whole cricket world on a shelf. Ishan Mani, on the other hand, led the ICC from 2003 to 2006. Mani is also quite experienced in that respect. Ishan Mani, Sourav Ganguly or anyone else – just waiting to see who will be seen as ICC chairman!
