WASHINGTON: The Donald Trump administration is set to introduce a new visa policy to bind students from other countries to the United States. The Department of Homeland Security has proposed a change in visa policy for students, exchange visitors and foreign media. Until then, such visa holders could stay in the United States for as long as needed, depending on the conditions of their admission. But now that deadline is being tied to a maximum of four years. In countries where people have been in the United States longer than they need to, the new visa is valid for a maximum of two years, after which they must apply for an extension. And students from 40 countries can read this list!
Earlier, the Trump administration came under fire for changing its visa policy. It said that if the university only started online courses, then students from other countries who came to study in the United States would have to return to their home countries. The government-backed down a bit under pressure. Now that rule only applies to new applicant students.
