Neymar-less Brazil are set to defend its Olympic gold medal in the 2020 edition of the Summer Games hosted by Japan. The men’s football tournament at the Tokyo Olympics 2020 is scheduled for a kickoff from July 22 and the 16 qualified teams will compete for the ultimate prize in the biggest sporting spectacle. In the 2020 edition of the Summer Games, Great Britain have not named a men’s side as Hege Riise’s team will compete for the gold medal in the women’s football tournament.
In the men’s football tournament at the Tokyo Olympics, former world champions Brazil, Germany, Argentina, Spain, and 2018 FIFA World Cup winners France will be clear favourites to at least secure a podium finish. The footballing giants in the international arena are joined by Japan, Mexico, South Africa, Honduras, South Korea, New Zealand, Romania Australia, Egypt, Ivory Coast, and Saudi Arabia.
Defending champions Brazil have filled one of their over-aged player slots by calling up Barcelona legend Dani Alves into the star-studded squad. Brazil had edged Germany in the final of the 2016 Summer Games on penalties to clinch the prestigious gold medal. In the absence of superstar Neymar, Everton star Richarlison, Aston Villa midfielder Douglas Luiz and Arsenal striker Gabriel Martinelli will spearhead the Selecao at the Tokyo Olympics. Having said that, let’s check out the squads of all men’s football teams ahead of the Summer Games.
