PV Sindhu claimed a 21-13, 22-20 win over Japan’s Akane Yamaguchi in her quarterfinal match to storm into the last four stages, where she will be up against Tai Tzu-Ying.
The Indian hockey women team marked their first win, beating Ireland 1-0. Meanwhile, Deepika Kumari held her nerves in a shoot-off against Ksenia Perova to book a quarterfinal spot, where she went down 6-0 against An San. With athletics kickstarting on Friday, Avinash Sable bettered his own national record. He, however, missed making the steeplechase final.
